What this covers

A clearer picture of the work around a modern studio.

Design work crosses more than one job title. This page keeps the two closely related federal occupation profiles separate, so the numbers stay useful: graphic designers on one side, web and digital interface designers on the other.

The data is national and describes occupations, not the revenue or size of any individual studio. Use it as context for reporting, planning, and conversations about the changing shape of creative work.

Reading the data

A mixed market, not one simple story.

Graphic design is projected to decline 2% from 2025 to 2035, while BLS still expects an average of 16,000 openings each year as people leave the occupation or move into other work. At the same time, web and digital interface design is projected to grow 6% over the same period.

That contrast matters for a studio: the work is changing across disciplines, and independent practice remains a meaningful part of both fields. BLS reports that one in five graphic designers and 13% of web and digital interface designers were self-employed in 2025.
